Pro-Cut Precision maximize capacity within a small workspace

“They are brilliant, absolutely brilliant" says Steve Holmes about his Hurco VM10i machining centres.

The number of spindles that they have been able to squeeze into the Milton Keynes facility is certainly impressive. Pro-Cut are a sub-contract parts manufacturer who do a mixture of small batch work and longer production runs.  Steve Holmes describes the 3 VM10i machines as running all day, every day, making parts for the agriculture industry.

Pro-Cut have used Hurco machines for many years and still appreciate the simplicity and ease of use of the Max5 control. Steve says, “The control has got better and faster, but it hasn't changed from 20 odd years ago".

The workshop layout maximizes capacity and flexibility within the space available. Over the past 5 years, Pro-Cut have invested in a VM30i to be able to handle workpieces up to 1,270mm in length and a VMX30Ui in order to reduce the number of set-ups for more complex parts.

All machines have either augers or swarf conveyers that easily manage the build-up of swarf from the production runs.

The VM30i benefits from the addition of a Kitagawa TT182 rotary-tilt table with Lang workholding which is integrated seamlessly onto the machine and can be programmed from the Max5 control using Hurco's unique “Transform plane" software for 5 sided operations.

Steve says the move towards 5 axis was a natural progression for the business. Having 2 different configurations of Hurco 5 axis machine means that he can quote for a greater variety of workpiece sizes.

The VMX30Ui can handle a surprisingly large sized component, considering the relatively small machine footprint, compared with other models on the market. Pro-Cut are happy to machine 3+2 axis, 5 sided components and fully simultaneous 5 axis parts. The more complex parts are required for the motor racing industry. Built-in flexibility to be able to serve a variety of customers is a key to the business success.

Pro-Cut are known for their fast turnaround of high quality CNC machined components. Providing prototyping and batch-production capabilities.

Steve Holmes states that the Hurco machines give him accuracy, surface finish and reliability. The formula appears to work well, Pro-Cut recently increased floorspace to add more capacity.
