INDIANAPOLIS –With the introduction of Hurco’s new brand identity that focuses on machinists and the parts they manufacture, Hurco announced the launch a new information resource specifically for machinists. The Hurco Blog is authored by Michael Cope, a former shop owner and current Applications Engineer and Product Technical Specialist at Hurco.

“When we worked on our rebranding initiative, we wanted to make sure we listened to the voice of the machinist, our core customer,” said Phil Fassnacht, Marketing Director for Hurco. “Because of Mike’s experience at Hurco as an Applications Engineer combined with the fact that he owned and operated a shop, I knew he would be able to generate valuable content that would really help our customers,” continued Fassnacht.

The Hurco Blog contains topics that resonate with all machinists, such as high-speed machining, 5-axis workholding, and 5-axis accuracy, in addition to tips that are specific to Hurco machine tools.

Mike.jpgCope has been in the manufacturing industry since 1984 and says, “Despite all of the ups and downs of this industry, I can’t imagine any other industry that offers the opportunity to combine craftsmanship and creativity with technology. When I’m writing posts for the Hurco Blog, I think of information that would have been helpful to me as a machinist who owned a shop. Manufacturing technology moves so fast and I hope the articles I write will help machinists get relevant information quickly so they can get back to making chips and/or running their business,” says Mike Cope.

INDIANAPOLIS—Hurco announced the selection of new distributor partners and expanded territories for several other distributors throughout the U.S.A.

Gary and Gerry California.jpgMachinery Sales Company (pictured left: Garry Frost and Gary Smith) has been selected as the exclusive distributor of Hurco machines in southern California while HS&S Machine Tool and Metrology, Inc. has been selected to represent Hurco in northern California and northern Nevada.

Hurco has expanded the territory of ACI Machine Tools (pictured above) to include Tennessee in addition to Kentucky and southern Indiana. Applied Machine Sales will focus exclusively on Georgia, Alabama, and Florida. In Illinois, Machinery Source has been chosen as the Hurco representative for the Chicago area.

According to Joe Braun, Manager – Distributor Development for Hurco North America, “These distributors and other distributor partners throughout the U.S. are successful representing Hurco because they understand how to demonstrate the value Hurco technology provides. In particular, the Hurco control has multiple features that help shops increase profitability in a high mix/small batch environment. Additionally, UltiMotion®, patented technology only available from Hurco, has been so well-received by customers that we are including it as a standard feature in all of our new machining centers. UltiMotion® reduces cycle time up to 30% and significantly improves surface finish quality because it uses software to control the motion system instead of conventional hardware, which means less machine jerk and optimized look-ahead. ”

INDIANAPOLIS— The VM10UHSi machining center has several advantages for the medical industry, according to Hurco. First and foremost, the control is versatile and adapts to the way the customer wants to work, which means it is equally powerful whether you use industry standard NC or conversational programming. However, the conversational features are especially beneficial for prototyping and quick editing of part programs, according to the company. Secondly, the VM10UHSi is a 5-axis machining center with an especially efficient footprint (117.9 x 105 in) and is equipped with a high speed machining package that has a 20K spindle standard and a 30K spindle option and rapids of 945 inches/minute on X, Y, and Z axes.
Manufacturers of medical parts are especially focused on surface finish. The VM10UHSi is equipped with UltiMotion, the patented motion system invented by Hurco. Because UltiMotion uses an advanced trajectory algorithm, it is able to generate motion that is smoother and faster than any hardware-only solution on the market, according to the company. The benefits include a 30-percent reduction in cycle time and parts with higher quality surface finishes because UltiMotion provides an overall reduction in machine jerk, up to 50% during direction changes, and less overall vibration.

All Hurco mills, both 3-axis and 5-axis are equipped with UltiMotion.

INDIANAPOLIS— UltiMotion, the patented motion system developed by Hurco, has particular benefits for drilling and tapping, according to Hurco. UltiMotion has an advanced trajectory algorithm in the software that generates faster yet smoother motion than any hardware-only solution, the company said.
"The ability of UltiMotion to take the shortest path from hole to hole yields cycle time reduction when machining parts with many repetitive tasks, such as drilling and tapping," said a Hurco spokesperson. "For rigid tapping, UltiMotion deploys a coordinated motion control mechanism that monitors the spindle angle at all times and instructs the axes to follow the spindle position. It also has the flexibility to choose higher speed/RPM to retract the tap tool out of the hole. For example, a customer can set the retract rate up to 100 times the in-feed rate.”
"Other benefits of UltiMotion include smoother surface finish and an overall reduction in machine jerk, up to 50% during direction changes. The overall smoother motion provided by UltiMotion yields less vibration and less chatter marks, which provides improved surface finish and minimizes the stress placed on the machining center's internal components."

All Hurco mills, both 3-axis and 5-axis—from the most advanced VMX42SRTi machining center to the general purpose entry-level VM10i machining center—are equipped with UltiMotion.\
