Hurco VMX Series spindles

Spindle Technology

Hurco VMX Series

The Hurco VMX Series features a standard belt-driven spindle capable of up to 12,000 rpm. The low base-speed of the spindle provides more torque for the machine. This is done without the need for a gearbox, eliminating the need for additional assembly and maintenance.

As a machine's workload increases, the spindle typically gets quite hot, causing "spindle growth" and affecting cutting accuracy. Hurco combats this primarily with a coolant jacket on the VMX spindle. The VMX spindle coolant jacket is standard and designed into the frame head casting. It reduces heat disapation while stabilizing large temperature variations. It's a simple yet very effective way to keep the spindle at optimum temperature, and the machine cutting with unquestioned precision. Higher duty cycles may require the thermo compensation spindle oil chiller option package.

Coolant through the spindle is also a popular option available on every Hurco VMX. All VMX spindles come with a six-nozzle coolant ring.

Hurco uses advanced ceramic hybrid bearings in spindles with speeds of 12,000 rpm or greater. These bearings run at much lower temperatures, so they have a significantly longer lifespan and a much lower probability of failure. These bearings are packed with lifetime grease. This is a maintenance-free lubrication system.

Keeping the spindle and work area clean is vital to machine performance. So, Hurco incorporates an upper and lower air-purge system to keep contaminants outside the spindle.

Hurco VMX S Series

In addition to the features of the VMX spindle, the VMX S Series spindle reaches 15,000 rpm and utilizes a herringbone belt to reduce machine noise.

The VMX S Series spindles also incorporate special hybrid ceramic bearings. The parts are keyless and shrunk-fit to the spindle. The tolerances are tighter for better fits and balance.
