Set surface finish quality in one step
SelectSurface Finish Quality

Tired of supposedly smooth arcs looking like orange peels? What about vibration lines appearing all over your part? The SelectSurface Finish Quality (SFQ) feature of WinMax is the answer. SFQ is an easy way to program surface finish quality—you choose desired surface finish (from 1 to 100) and the software automatically adjusts servo gains, cornering tables, acceleration and jerk parameters to give you the best cycle time.

SFQ works so well because it uses 600-block look-ahead so feed rates are controlled for excellent surface finishes on complicated part geometries. S-curve acceleration and motion jerk control algorithms compensate for machine dynamics, giving you smooth finishes.

Additionally, SFQ gives you graphical feedback of the current SFQ setting and following error.

What makes SFQ unique?

  • Advanced control hardware and software permit high speed processing of downloaded 3D surface geometry data. Improves run time by 2 to 4 times and provides a superior surface finish.
  • Includes advanced 'look ahead' and 'S' curve velocity control for smooth tool path motion over directed surface.
  • Optimizes tool paths and cutting strategies from a variety of offline software packages.
  • Graphical feedback of current SFQ and following error.
SFQ utilizes the following tools to generate smoother surface finishes

  • Surface Finish Quality (Select Precision, Standard or Performance)
  • Cornering Optimization (Computes the optimum feedrate for traversing a corner in the tool path and defines the maximum feedrate acceleration that should be used around the corner with the given angle)
  • Precision Cornering
  • S-Curve Acceleration (Controls the transitions in acceleration between segments, limiting overshoot and jerk that excite the natural frequencies of the machine)
  • NC Tool Path Tolerance (Specifies the maximum allowed deviation from program tool path and matches the control tolerance to the CAM tolerance)
  • Data Smoothing (Combines co-linear line segments and fits a 2D or 3D arc through a series of segments)
