Key Hurco advantage: Flexible controls

For Greene Metal Products, Hurco’s flexibility with its control is the key.  The Hurco control is very easy to use in its conversational mode. It is pedestal mounted, perfectly suited for the operator to use as setups are being made.
    Tooling can be changed and calibrated fast for each job or series of jobs. Since the programs are interchangeable, scheduling is easier. If the job will fit on the table, it can be scheduled a run.
    Since the control is easy and fast to edit, changes in the program between machines can be done in minutes on the shop floor with no need for offline programming bottlenecks or overhead. All of these factors keep costs down and job flow high.
    Another key factor is that the performance of Hurco equipment continues to increase over the years. In one example, a new Hurco CAT 50 taper machine is 200% to 300% faster in metal removal rates than a similar sized 12-year-old machine.
    Finally, Greene Metal Products found in the tight labor market of the late 1990s that the ease of use of the Hurcos let them tap into the immigrant labor market in Detroit. They were able to hire several immigrants from the Balkan countries.
    Though their mechanical skills were good, their English was not. However, the simplicity and logic of the Hurco conversational control allowed them to run the machines in short order. They have become very productive workers and a valuable asset.
